Circle malware-scan-250 iThemes Security just got three new, huge features. They were widely requested on the iThemes Security Public Roadmap:
  • Malware Scanning
  • Admin Username Host Banning
  • XML-RPC Protection

Malware Scanning

You can now perform manual malware scans from your iThemes Security Dashboard and even schedule regular malware scans in iThemes Security Pro. Be sure you’re running iThemes Security Free version 4.3.7 or Pro version 1.6.9. Go to the Malware Scanning section of the iThemes Security Settings page and click to enable Malware Scanning. The results of your scan are kept in the Security Log Data section of your Logs tab.
If you’re an iThemes Security Pro user, you can easily schedule Malware scans. Just go to the Pro tab in your iThemes Security Dashboard and set when you would like Malware Scanning to run.
Just make sure you have Malware Scanning enabled and API key added in your iThemes Security dashboard before running scans from Sync.

Automatically Ban Admin Username Hosts

It’s a WordPress Security best practice to change the name on any Admin account to something other than “Admin” because it’s easy to identify it an account with permissions. Hackers specifically target (and try to log in with) accounts with the username of Admin. Now, with one click you can automatically ban a user or bot trying to log in to your site using the Admin username, right from your iThemes Security Dashboard. One more thing you don’t have to worry about! Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 12.07.28 PM

Protection Against XML-RPC Brute Force Attacks

Brute Force Protection in iThemes Security just got more robust. Now when you enable Brute Force Protection this feature includes protection from XML-RPC attacks. With recent security compromises from botnets stepping up their use of XML-RPC, this is a timely and important feature add. We’ve taken extra steps to protect your sites from this type of attack. Brute Force Protection in iThemes Security The best part is, you don’t have to configure anything. Just make sure Brute Force Protection is enable in your iThemes Security Dashboard and your site is automatically protected.
