Solid Backups 9.1.14: Embracing Legacy & Launching the NextGen Era

With the release of Solid Backups 9.1.14, we’re marking a pivotal moment for our backup solution. The product formerly known as BackupBuddy is now rebranded as "Solid Backups — Legacy," reflecting its established history, while the new "Solid Backups — NextGen" takes center stage as the forward-looking backup solution for WordPress sites. This update also phases out Google Drive support and includes some key adjustments and minor tweaks for a smoother user experience.

With version 9.1.14, Solid Backups is becoming Solid Backups — Legacy.

This change to the name of Solid Backups acknowledges the long legacy of the product formerly known as BackupBuddy, and helps position the all-new Solid Backups — NextGen as the way forward and the solution of choice for backing up sites built with WordPress.

Here’s now the new identity shows up:

  • the Solid Backups — Legacy name appears in key places in the product
  • the product logo has been updated
  • a new banner makes it easy for users to check out the new Solid Backups — NextGen product (which licensed users of Solid Backups — Legacy already have access to)

In addition to updating the name, this release fully deprecates support for Google Drive destinations, as announced back in July. Users who have not integrated with Google Drive are unaffected by this change. For any users who had previously used Google Drive but had not already removed that integration from from their site(s) will see that:

  • Any remaining backup destinations using Google Drive are removed (creating new Google Drive destinations was disabled in version 9.1.13)
  • Any remaining backup schedules using a removed Google Drive destination are deactivated
  • A notice appears in the product informing those users of these changes.

This update also includes a couple of small tweaks:

  • updated language to opt-in data sharing clarifies how the email opt-in works
  • a banner announcing special offers will display in the product during the upcoming holiday sale
