Rebrand in Public

Answering all your burning questions about SolidWP and the iThemes Rebrand: Part 1

We recently held a virtual town hall meeting with Nathan Ingram and Matt Cromwell to discuss the SolidWP rebrand with a few of our current iThemes customers. That led to a number of great questions being asked that we thought should be shared with a wider audience. If you're interested in viewing that webinar you can check it out here: https://vimeo.

We recently held a virtual town hall meeting with Nathan Ingram and Matt Cromwell to discuss the SolidWP rebrand with a few of our current iThemes customers. That led to a number of great questions being asked that we thought should be shared with a wider audience.

Now let’s get to answering your questions!

Your Questions: Answered, to the best of our ability ?

The following are questions we’ve taken from the above webinar and then provided our current answers. Note: the answers seen here are liable to change as we continue our rebrand efforts. If you have additional questions feel free to hit us up on Twitter or YouTube.

How will we access our accounts and training going forward? Is everything moving to the new website?

We are currently working to migrate our existing accounts to the new site solidwp.com website. Our plan is that you will be able to seamlessly log in to the new site. However, migrating more than 10 years of data is a challenge. We are taking precautions to ensure as minimal impact on our customers as possible. Once we have tested and are ready to make the switch we will notify our customers of the change.

What is the corporate relationship between SolidWP, Liquid Web, and Stellar?

Liquid Web is the company behind all our products. Liquid Web is made up of three primary parts: Liquid Web, which provides hosting; Nexcess which provides Managed WordPress hosting, and StellarWP which is the software arm of the company — where all our WordPress products live. StellarWP currently represents the following WordPress products: LearnDash, The Events Calendar, GiveWP, KadenceWP, IconicWP, Restrict Content Pro, and of course iThemes/SolidWP.

Are lifetime licenses going to be honored and updated with the new product name? e.g. BackupBuddy.

Yes, we will continue to honor all lifetime licenses for the products that we continue to develop and support.

What are the font names in the logos?

It’s “ABC Favorit,” and we think it’s pretty cool too! It’s a premium font that we think really adds a cool shine.

I was recently billed for a Toolkit year. Are there any services that will change (either get more or less) over the next year? The price hasn’t changed, will the services change?

Toolkit contains some of our lesser-used and supported products that we plan on sunsetting. This includes BoomBar, Content Upgrades, Landing Pages, and all our legacy themes. You will still have access to Restrict Content Pro, Kadence, and our updated Solid products: Security, Backups, and Central. Please see the iThemes Product Sunset Plan for complete details.

What is the current timeframe for the first Security release with the new branding?

We are working towards an early access release mid-Summer but this timeline is subject to change depending on how our project progresses.

Will product updates only be rebranded via UI refresh, or will they be rewritten (i.e., Solid Security)?

We are strategically rewriting and refactoring certain areas of our codebase to make way for additional features, performance, and reliability. Security is getting many new features and quite the UI refresh but not getting a major rewrite. Backups is undergoing a more extensive rewrite for reliability, and we’re spending much more time with bug fixes on this product as well.

Will there be changes to the regular training schedule? If so, when do those changes start? (Or can I count on the recurring events on my calendar?)

The short answer is yes, there will be changes – we’re currently working on the full strategy right now with Nathan. You can still count on recurring events on your calendar however the nature of the events and the subjects may change.

When iThemes Sync turns into Solid Central will we need to reinstall plugins?

Sync will turn into Central but will not require any reinstallation. You will simply need to perform a plugin update.

When the renaming of plugins occurs, will version #s get restarted at 1.0 or will they continue where they left off?

Version numbers will be incremented to the next major version, not restarted. The change logs will still incorporate the historical work.

What all is covered in the Academy?

The full Solid Academy vision is still taking shape, but we plan to continue to bring some of the best training and insights for businesses running on WordPress. We also will be showcasing and highlighting all the best WordPress tools and products, specifically those from the whole StellarWP product line, like KadenceWP, GiveWP, Learn Dash, and more.

BackupBuddy, iThemes Sync, and iThemes Security still can be installed separately.

Yes, you will be able to install and use our products separately as well as purchase each individually. We are actually spending quite a bit of time to make these products work more seamlessly together. There will also be a discount when purchasing the products together within what we’re coining the “Solid Suite”. We plan on adding additional products to this suite and having them all deeply integrated with Solid Central as the main hub of interactivity between your single or network of sites.

Do you have a road map that we can follow to see where you are in the conversion?

We do not have a public roadmap at this time but you can follow along on our YouTube channel or Twitter for our Rebranding in Public series where we bring you along with our process and involve you with our progress.

Will we still have access to the Kadence theme and the current products we currently have? Just finished migrating all my customer sites to Kadence.

That’s great! You can continue using Kadence and your license will remain active. Kadence is our choice for a solid theme as well. In the future if you access your Kadence license through members.ithemes.com it may change to kadencewp.com or solidwp.com – we’ll be sure to inform you before any change is made!

Can we get an LTD on Toolkit memberships??

At this time we do not have any lifetime sales planned.

iThemes does not have a good reputation for taking care of existing customers. Will SolidWP do better?

Thanks for the honest feedback! A major part of this rebranding effort is to realign our team around our customer-centric goals. This means providing the best support possible to all of our customers. We know in the past we may have missed the mark a bit for some and this realignment is a major step to ensuring nobody falls through the net, ever.

Special pricing deals always exclude existing customers.

Existing customers will have opportunities to grab renewal discounts and reduced prices for new products introduced to the Solid Suite. We understand that our current customers are our best ambassadors and want to provide them exclusive perks that they may not have ever received from us in the past. We’re also looking into free swag for our VIP customers.

Will our old affiliate links still work for the new SolidWP?

We are going to attempt to redirect all old iThemes links to their equivalent SolidWP URLs, including affiliate links. However, this is a complicated migration so we cannot promise that all links will continue to work until we do further investigation and work with our affiliate team. Please follow along with us on our YouTube or Twitter to learn more as we come closer to tackling this objective.

Keep the Questions Coming!

We loved hearing from you in this first batch of questions. We’ll be sure to hold more town halls soon but in the meantime be sure to contact us if you have any immediate questions!
